Carter set to miss Saturday

Texas Tech will face Sam Houston on Saturday without tight end Terrance Carter Jr., who is dealing with an AC joint issue. The senior’s absence leaves the Red Raiders without a receiving option who played a productive role last season. Carter has recorded five receptions for 62 yards this season. This will not be his first missed game of the campaign: He also sat out Texas Tech’s visit to Oregon State because of a foot injury. The issue keeping him out against Sam Houston is separate from that earlier injury.

A productive target unavailable

Carter finished last season with 55 catches, 624 receiving yards and five touchdown receptions for the No. 11 Red Raiders. Those totals provide a measure of the production Texas Tech has previously received from the tight end, even as his output this season has been more limited. His absence is not the only availability concern for Texas Tech entering the matchup. Cornerback Amier Boyd will remain out after missing last week’s game against Houston with an undisclosed injury. With Carter and Boyd unavailable, the Red Raiders head into the Sam Houston game missing contributors on offense and defense.
