Explosive Week 5 Output
Jaylen Warren turned in another big performance in Week 5, finishing with 15 carries for 101 rushing yards and six catches for 87 receiving yards. Those totals added up to 188 all-purpose yards, his third straight game reaching at least 125. Warren scored twice, including a 50-yard run and an 80-yard reception, becoming the first player since 1986 to post both in the same contest. The Steelers held Jonathan Taylor to 45 yards on 15 carries in the same game.
Increased Role With Dowdle Out
With Rico Dowdle still recovering from a toe injury suffered in Week 2, Warren has taken on at least 85 percent of the offensive snaps since Week 3. In his five-year career he had exceeded 60 percent of snaps in only nine of 69 regular-season games before this stretch. The team hopes to have Dowdle available for Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though the backfield has leaned heavily on Warren in the meantime.
Preparation Pays Off
No Steelers player had reached 125 scrimmage yards in three consecutive weeks since James Conner managed it four weeks in a row in 2018. Warren has continued to practice with extra effort even in a rotational role, often running extra after others stop. That approach has translated to production when given a larger share of carries and targets.
