Early Offense and Comeback
The Guardians jumped ahead with two runs in the first inning after a leadoff single, a walk and an error on a high chopper that allowed the second run to score. Chicago answered in the fourth when a leadoff single, a walk and a base hit cut the deficit to one. In the fifth, another leadoff single chased the starter, and a wild pitch set up runners at second and third for a two-run double that gave the White Sox the lead.
Pitching Dominance in Relief
The starter worked five-plus innings and recorded 11 strikeouts before exiting. A right-hander then entered with one out in the third, allowed just one hit over the next 5⅓ innings, struck out six and threw 83 pitches. Another reliever followed with 1⅓ innings and one hit allowed to record his second straight save. The Guardians managed only three runs total across the two games.
Series Shifts to Chicago
The best-of-five series now moves to Chicago for Game 3 on Wednesday, where the White Sox need one more victory to reach the ALCS for the first time since 2005. The Guardians, held to limited production again, will look to extend the series behind their offense after being shut out in Game 1.
