Series Situation
The White Sox enter Game 3 of the American League Division Series with a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-three matchup. Chicago has posted a 4-0 record to open the postseason and can complete a sweep on Wednesday. The Guardians trail and face elimination as they try to keep their season going against the South Side club.
Newcomb Gets the Ball for Chicago
Left-hander Sean Newcomb will handle the opener duties for the White Sox. He has recorded four saves this season while also making six starts and finished with a 2-5 record and 3.09 ERA overall. Newcomb posted a 0.84 ERA in his six outings as an opener and is one of five left-handers on the ALDS roster. He is scheduled to face the top of the Guardians order that includes Steven Kwan, Jose Ramirez and Chase DeLauter.
Espino Selected to Start for Cleveland
The Guardians will counter with rookie right-hander Daniel Espino in the opener spot. Espino opened three games during the regular season and carried a 6.25 ERA in that role while posting a 4.11 ERA across his first 14 big-league appearances. A first-round selection in 2019, he missed four seasons due to two shoulder surgeries before earning the start in the win-or-go-home game.
