An NFC East Rivalry With Very Little Margin Left

Philadelphia and Washington meet again on Sunday Night Football with both teams desperate to change the direction of their seasons. The Eagles enter at 2-5 after five consecutive losses, while Washington is 1-4-1 but comes out of its bye with Jayden Daniels healthy and playing some of his best football. Philadelphia won the first meeting 24-22 in Week 1, but this version of the Eagles looks very different: Jalen Hurts is no longer available, DeVonta Smith is out and Saquon Barkley is playing through hamstring and back issues. Washington therefore enters with the more stable quarterback situation and the rest advantage, but the Commanders still have to prove they can turn Daniels’ production into wins.

Jayden Daniels Is Washington’s Biggest Advantage

Daniels is coming off a 300-yard, two-touchdown performance against San Francisco, and his ability to attack both from the pocket and as a runner creates the biggest problem Philadelphia must solve. The Eagles cannot simply increase pressure without considering the scrambling lanes that can open when Daniels escapes the pocket, which makes Daniels rushing yards, completions and total touchdown involvement some of the most natural Washington props to follow. Terry McLaurin remains on injured reserve, but Stefon Diggs finished the week as a full participant, giving Daniels an experienced primary target while Washington continues spreading touches across younger receivers, tight ends and its backfield.

Tanner McKee Faces One of the NFL’s Most Aggressive Defenses

McKee showed encouraging progress against Dallas, leading three long touchdown drives and making quicker decisions than he had in his previous start, but Washington presents a very different challenge. The Commanders blitz on 43.9% of opposing dropbacks, the second-highest rate in the NFL, meaning Philadelphia will need to keep McKee out of obvious passing situations and give him simple answers when pressure arrives. That makes McKee sacks taken, completions and interceptions more interesting than blindly chasing passing-yard volume, because if Washington builds an early lead, his attempts could rise even without an efficient performance.

Saquon Barkley Can Play — but Volume Is the Real Question

Barkley is available after returning to practice Friday, but his hamstring and back issues make workload much harder to project. He produced 72 total yards and a touchdown on only nine touches against Dallas before being limited again, and Philadelphia desperately needs him because establishing the run is the clearest way to slow Washington’s blitz packages and protect McKee. When healthy, Barkley has averaged 5.7 yards per carry this season, but the more attractive markets tonight may be rushing attempts, rushing + receiving yards, first-half usage or anytime touchdown rather than an aggressive rushing-yard over that assumes a full workload.

Dallas Goedert Could Become McKee’s Safest Option

Philadelphia will again be without DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks and Britain Covey, significantly reducing its receiving depth, while Dallas Goedert enters healthy after finishing the week as a full participant. Against a defense that sends pressure as often as Washington does, Goedert can become especially valuable on quick routes, third downs and plays where McKee needs to get the ball out before the rush arrives. That makes Goedert receptions one of the cleaner Philadelphia props, particularly if Barkley’s workload is managed and the Eagles need to manufacture offense through shorter throws.

The Betting Angles That Matter Most Tonight

Daniels rushing yards stands out because his mobility directly challenges Philadelphia’s pressure plan, while Goedert receptions fit the Eagles’ injury situation and Washington’s aggressive defensive style. McKee sacks taken also connects naturally to the matchup if Philadelphia falls behind and becomes pass-heavy. Barkley’s anytime touchdown market may be more appealing than relying on a large yardage total, while Stefon Diggs receptions deserve attention with McLaurin unavailable. Washington first-half markets are also interesting because the Commanders enter rested and have the more experienced starting quarterback, while Philadelphia is operating on a shorter week with an offense still adapting around McKee.

Can Philadelphia Keep Its Season Alive?

Philadelphia’s path is relatively simple to describe but difficult to execute: run the ball effectively enough to protect McKee, stay out of third-and-long and prevent Daniels from creating explosive plays outside structure. Washington has its own defensive injuries, including Javon Kinlaw being ruled out, so the Eagles should still have opportunities to move the ball. But the quarterback difference remains the central factor. Daniels gives Washington more ways to recover when a play breaks down, while McKee needs the structure around him to function properly. If Barkley can handle meaningful volume and Philadelphia controls the pace, this can stay close; if Washington’s blitz consistently reaches McKee, the Commanders have a clear path to taking control of the NFC East rematch.
