Record-Breaking Assist
Nikita Kucherov moved past Steven Stamkos to top the Tampa Bay Lightning career points list after recording an assist in the opening period versus the Utah Mammoth. He sent a power-play shot toward the net that Brayden Point redirected for the goal, giving Kucherov his 10th assist of the season and his 1,138th point overall. The total came in his 890th game and included 405 goals along with 733 assists, one more than Stamkos accumulated across 1,082 games.
Strong Start to the Season
Kucherov opened this season with four goals and 10 assists. Last season he finished with 44 goals and 86 assists while earning league MVP honors. The forward first recorded an NHL point when he scored on his initial shot against the New York Rangers in November 2013 and added his first assist one month later.
Elite Skill and Vision
Coach Jon Cooper highlighted Kucherov's ability to anticipate plays several steps ahead and his command of the game during video sessions. Colorado coach Jared Bednar noted the forward's elite puck distribution and capacity to slow the pace to create time for teammates. Defenseman Josh Manson added that Kucherov calms play with the puck and uses deception to find lanes and slip past coverage.
