Standout on the Field
Lawrence McCutcheon earned five Pro Bowl nods during his first eight NFL seasons with the Rams after the club selected him in the 1972 draft. The Plainview, Texas native led the team in rushing each year from 1973 through 1977 and earned second-team All-Pro recognition in 1974. He appeared in 11 postseason contests for Los Angeles and threw a touchdown pass during the January 1980 Super Bowl. McCutcheon remained the franchise career rushing leader when he departed in 1980.
Long Front-Office Tenure
After two additional playing seasons with other clubs, McCutcheon joined the Rams front office and remained there for more than three decades. He advanced to director of player personnel for the St. Louis Rams from 2003 until retiring in 2016. His family noted that he earned respect from teammates, opponents, colleagues and fans throughout both his playing and executive careers.
Family Legacy Continues
McCutcheon passed away at age 76 after battling Parkinson's disease. His son Daylon played cornerback for the Cleveland Browns from 1999 to 2006, and his grandson Dyson is a defensive back at Middle Tennessee.
