Criticism and Club History
Erik ten Hag addressed remarks from past Manchester United players who frequently discuss the team. He noted that such figures often seek to safeguard their own standing from earlier successes. While acknowledging their major contributions and trophies won, he pointed out that they may lack full awareness of current situations as the game changes. Ten Hag stressed respect for what they achieved but indicated they fall short in providing balanced backing to the club and its players.
Effects on Current Squad
Some players have felt irritation from the commentary by these former stars. Ten Hag described a generally positive personal connection with several of them through prior discussions. At the same time, he observed that the focus on protecting legacies can lead to one-sided views that do not always reflect internal realities at the club.
Recent Results Under New Leadership
With Michael Carrick in charge this season, the team secured just two victories across the 10 matches played in all competitions.
