Donohue Reinstated After Derby Mistake
The VAR who missed an offside call involving Manchester City's Enzo Fernández during the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Sept. 13 has been restored to Premier League assignments. Matt Donohue will serve as assistant VAR for the match between Coventry and Fulham on Saturday. He had been absent from the top flight for the three rounds that followed the incident.
EFL Appearances and Team Support
Donohue continued working in the EFL during his absence from Premier League games. He officiated the Championship fixture between Southampton and Bolton last Saturday along with the Derby versus Wrexham contest on Oct. 10. His assistant on the derby, Blake Antrobus, returned to duty last Saturday as an assistant referee for Newcastle against Aston Villa.
Panel Backs Struijk Red-Card Review
A separate review covered the VAR call to send off Brighton's Pascal Struijk against Sunderland on Oct. 10. The five-person Key Match Incidents panel supported overturning the on-field decision by a three-to-two vote even though an independent commission later lifted the resulting suspension. The Premier League noted that the panel and the commission operate as distinct bodies with separate roles.
