High School Calm Under Pressure
During a homecoming game against Dexter, Saline coach Kyle Short had to leave for the hospital as his wife went into labor. Tommy Carr handled the situation without issue, finishing with a school-record eight touchdown passes in a 61-34 victory. The performance highlighted the composure Carr had shown throughout his time at Saline.
Family Ties to Michigan Football
Carr comes from a long line of Wolverines contributors. His paternal grandfather Lloyd Carr led the program to the 1997 national title, while his maternal grandfather Tom Curtis earned All-American honors as a safety. His father Jason played quarterback for Michigan in the 1990s, and his mother Tammi is also a graduate. Carr backed up his older brother CJ at Saline before earning his own opportunities.
Late Rally Against Penn State
Michigan trailed 3-0 at halftime against Penn State before Carr entered the game. He directed three touchdown drives, including a 12-yard scoring run on third-and-9. Offensive coordinator Jason Beck noted how the quarterback looked the same in those moments as he does in practice.
Upcoming Decision at Quarterback
Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham said a plan is in place for the game against No. 6 Indiana but declined to name a starter. Bryce Underwood had started every game this season and completed 58 percent of his passes while throwing eight turnovers against seven touchdowns. Carr, who initially committed to Miami (Ohio), could earn his first start at the program he grew up following.
