Jackson Sidelined After Knee Injury
Jaren Jackson Jr. suffered a torn MCL in his right knee and will miss six to eight weeks. The two-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year was hurt when a Memphis guard fell into him during the game. Jackson had appeared in just three contests for Utah last season after arriving in a deal that sent three first-round picks to Memphis. He had previously undergone surgery on his left knee to remove a noncancerous growth.
Markkanen Dealing with Wrist Sprain
Lauri Markkanen exited early with a right wrist injury. Tests showed no fracture but confirmed a sprain. The 7-foot forward is a high-volume three-point shooter, so the shooting wrist issue raises concerns even though the team hopes he avoids a long absence.
Nurkic Still Out with Toe Issue
The frontcourt troubles extend further as starting center Jusuf Nurkic has yet to appear this season because of a partial plantar plate tear in his right foot. That injury is set for reevaluation in early November, leaving the Jazz without several key big men at once.
