No Approach Made
The Colts have not contacted Peyton Manning about their open general manager position. League sources indicate the Hall of Fame quarterback has no plans to pursue the job, which would demand constant attention. Manning has built a busy post-playing career that includes Omaha Productions, the ManningCast and various commercial work, leaving little room for the demands of running an NFL front office.
Current Obligations
Manning has two children in high school along with regular broadcast duties and scattered commercial shoots. Those responsibilities make the timing unsuitable for a full-time GM role. He has previously stated that leading an NFL franchise was not on his radar, preferring to stay involved through media projects and family time without the pressures of team operations.
Colts Search Continues
The team dismissed Chris Ballard after nine-plus seasons and a 72-82-1 record. Indianapolis enters its game against the Minnesota Vikings at 2-4 and has used 14 different starting quarterbacks during his tenure. Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon has pledged a thorough search for the next leader. While Manning could consider other high-profile opportunities in the future, similar to roles taken by Tom Brady, Matt Ryan and Tony Boselli elsewhere, no such discussions have occurred with the Colts.
