Manning Shows Fight in Comeback Effort

Manning completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown while adding two rushing scores. He threw for 171 yards in the first half on 13 of 19 attempts as Texas built a 24-3 lead. In the second half he managed just 41 passing yards but delivered a key 80-yard drive capped by a bootleg touchdown that put the Longhorns ahead 31-24 with 8:04 remaining.

With Smothers unavailable, Brown carried 23 times for 157 yards. The Longhorns finished with 207 rushing yards at 4.9 yards per carry after entering the game at 136 yards and 3.6 per attempt. The ground game limited Texas to one pass after the second interception, helping prevent a third straight blown lead.

Defense Closes Out Rebels in Final Seconds

Ole Miss trimmed the margin to 34-27 on a late field goal and recovered an onside kick. The Rebels advanced from their 37 to the Texas 24 before a Hail Mary from the 29 was intercepted by McDonald as time expired. The Longhorns played without Simmons, Goosby and Coleman but held firm for the victory.
