Texas will be without leading rusher Hollywood Smothers on Saturday against No. 7 Ole Miss. The tailback, who has 289 rushing yards on 65 carries and two touchdowns, suffered a shoulder injury in the fourth quarter of last week's loss to Florida and was ruled out. Raleek Brown and freshman Derrek Cooper are expected to handle more carries for the 4-2 Longhorns.
Pass Rush Also Impacted
The Longhorns will also be without edge rusher Colin Simmons, who is dealing with an ankle injury from the Florida game. Simmons leads the nation with 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss this season. His 31.5 career sacks rank third in Texas history.
Quarterback Room Under Review
With starter Arch Manning facing scrutiny after recent turnovers, redshirt freshman KJ Lacey received more first-team practice snaps this week. Manning ranks 10th in the SEC in completion percentage at 63.9 percent, has thrown five interceptions and has 11 touchdown passes. Coach Steve Sarkisian said the staff is evaluating all aspects of the offense and that Manning needs to deliver a better version of his play.
